NEW YORK -- Part of Brooklyns resurgence this month has been due, in large part, to the team trusting each other on both ends of the court and buying into first-year coach Jason Kidds plan. The Nets continued their winning ways Tuesday by sweeping a back-to-back set for the first time this season, beating the Orlando Magic 101-90 a night after routing the crosstown rival New York Knicks. "Its a sign that were showing consistency with what were trying to do around here," said Nets forward Paul Pierce, who along with Joe Johnson, the other forward in Kidds small lineup, chipped 13 points apiece. Andray Blatche had another great game off the bench, scoring a team-high 18 points, and reserve forward Mirza Teletovic added 14 points as the Nets won for the eighth time in nine games. "Were not only winning, but were pretty convincingly turning it on in the third quarter with the defence, the way were moving the ball, Pierce said. "Thats what we want. Thats all he wants out of us, night in, night out, a consistent effort. Thats what were trying to do especially in back-to-backs." The Nets 8-1 start in January is an NBA best after a disappointing 10-21 start to their second season in Brooklyn. The Nets improved to 2-6 in the second game of a back-to-back. Once again, Kidd stuck with the same starting unit since Deron Williams went down with an ankle injury. Kidds starting five of Pierce, Johnson, Kevin Garnett, Alan Anderson and Shaun Livingston improved to 6-0. "For us coming off the back-to-back, we havent had that much success -- if any. This was more or less -- no matter who the opponent was -- it was about trying to get a win against a team we hadnt had back-to-back win," Kidd said. Despite heavy snow that was expected to dump 8-14 inches on the city, there were barely any empty seats with 15,482 in attendance at Barclays Center. New York City native Kyle OQuinn led Orlando with 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench. ETwaun Moore had 13 points for the Magic, who lost for the 10th time in 11 games. Brooklyn built an early seven-point lead in the second quarter after Williams, who came off the bench for the second straight game, hit a 3-pointer to make it 31-24 with just 10:34 remaining. But the second unit started to lose that lead as the offence became stagnant. Tied 38-all with 3:51 remaining in the second quarter, the Nets went on an 8-4 run to close out the first half up 46-42. The Nets, who had been plagued by a lack of effort in the second half during the first two months of the season, buckled down in the beginning of the third quarter after allowing the Magic to hit 50 per cent of their shots in the first half. Brooklyn came out focused on the defensive end as they had done during its previous seven victories and held the Magic to just 3 for 21 from the field. "Well that was the difference in the game, the third quarter", Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn said. "Their approach, the way they came out. They hit us first and we didnt have an answer." Orlando missed its first nine shots of the quarter and the Nets were able to capitalize, going on an 18-6 run to take a 64-48 lead with 5:09 left in the period. Aaron Afflalo then made the Magics first bucket with 4:50 remaining. "We stopped moving the ball. We stopped playing together. We stopped playing defence. We stopped doing everything. ... We just laid down," said Magic forward Glen Davis. "To be in the game and to have a chance to win the game and we just let it go like that, its just really disappointing." The 14 points scored by Orlando in that quarter were a Nets opponent season low. Williams had nine points and dished out nine assists in 28 minutes. It was his second game back after missing the last five due to a sprained ankle. "I think our third quarters have been a lot better. That was a problem a lot in the first half of the season," Williams said. "We just came out and couldnt get going and got blown out the water. Weve definitely been better since the start of the new year." The Nets have allowed 91.7 points per game during their eight wins in January. NOTES: Brooklyn has won four straight games over Southeast Division opponents after starting out the year 1-4. Theyve beaten Atlanta twice, Miami and now Orlando. . Williams nine assists moved him past Stephon Marybury into eighth place on the teams all-time assist list. . Blatche has averaged 19.7 points during his last three games. Josh Rosen Cardinals Jersey . Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Buddy Robinson scored 43 seconds apart in the second period to lead the Binghamton Senators to a 4-1 victory over the Bulldogs in American Hockey League action Friday night at the Bell Centre. Brice Butler Cardinals Jersey . - While he appreciates suggestions from Packers fans of remedies for his sore left calf, Aaron Rodgers is not necessarily going to listen to the advice. http://www.nflcardinalsrookiestore.com/Cardinals-Christian-Kirk-Jersey/ . The third-ranked Lewis, a three-time winner this year on the LPGA Tour, had a 9-under 135 total at Emirates Golf Course in the Ladies European Tours season-ending tournament. Josh Bynes Cardinals Jersey . At Manchester United, Ferguson developed Beckham into one of the worlds most recognizable sportsmen, but the midfielder left United in 2003 for Real Madrid under a cloud after his relationship with the manager broke down.Tight end has become almost a glamour position in the NFL these days, as more and more of these inline receivers put up numbers that work for fantasy owners. There have been at least six tight ends with a minimum of 800 receiving in each of the past three seasons. In the previous seven seasons, there was one season with more than five 800-yard receivers at the tight end position. More passes are being thrown in the NFL and tight ends are included in that aerial expansion. The best of them is a guy who spent his offseason trying to shed the tight end label. The Saints Jimmy Graham was angling for wide receiver money after New Orleans hit him with a franchise tag, but all was eventually sorted out once Graham inked a new deal. Hes coming off a season in which he accumulated 1,215 receiving yards and a league-high 16 receiving touchdowns. Over the past three seasons, there have been four tight ends with at least 2,000 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns; one (Tony Gonzalez) has since retired and there is no one in Grahams stratosphere. That makes Graham a first-round value in most formats. If there is one tight end who might compare with Graham, its New Englands Rob Gronkowski, who has averaged more yards and touchdowns per game in the past three years, but Gronk has had problems staying on the field, playing 34 out of a possible 48 games. Hes an incredible talent, a difference-maker, when healthy, but his value for fantasy purposes is diminished somewhat by his propensity for injury. Back and forearm issues have plagued Gronkowski to this point of his career, but hes only 25. Usually the wear and tear comes a little further down the road. A safer pick than Gronkowski might be Denvers Julius Thomas, who emerged as a big-play target for Peyton Manning last season, scoring a dozen times while catching 65 passes for 788 yards. That was the first regular playing time of Thomas career, so if he can build upon those results, he has a chance to join the elite at the position. While were looking at potential, Washingtons Jordan Reed showed some flashes in nine games last season, gaining 499 yards with three touchdowns. Project that over a full season and Reed could go for 800-yards-plus. The Carolina Panthers have a patchwork receiving corps, so veteran tight end Greg Olsen, with back-to-back seasons of more than 800 receiving yards, ought to be a prime target for quarterback Cam Newton. One of last years big breakouts came from Browns tight end Jordan Cameron, who had 917 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. There may be uncertainty at quarterback in Cleveland, but suspension of Josh Gordon leaves Browns quarterback with few solid receiving optionns, making it all the more likely that Cameron puts up big numbers again this season.dddddddddddd With a bolstered receving corps in San Francisco, maybe Vernon Davis wont be used as much as he was last season, when he tied a career-high with 13 touchdowns, but hes also been held under 790 receiving yards once in the past five seasons. Davis is now 30-years-old, but hes not the only veteran that still produces enough to have fantasy appeal. Antonio Gates only had four touchdowns for the Chargers last season, his fewest since his rookie year in 2003, but also had 77 catches for 872 yards, his most since 2009. Dallas Jason Witten is another in the over-30 brigade who still puts up big numbers and Witten has consistently been one of Tony Romos favourite targets for a long time. Wittens 851 receiving yards last season counted as his lowest since 2006, but he hasnt missed a game since 2003 and last years eight touchdowns counted as the second-best total of his career. Beyond that group, the options start to open up a little more. Charles Clay had a breakout year (759 YDS, 6 TD) in Miami last season and second-year tight ends Tyler Eifert and Zach Ertz have potential to do big things in Cincinnati and Philadelphia, respectively. Minnesotas Kyle Rudolph (nine touchdowns in 2012) and San Diegos Ladarius Green (376 YDS, 3 TD last season) are a couple more possible breakout candidates. There are a couple of good options coming off injury-plagued 2013 seasons. Baltimores Dennis Pitta had 669 yards and seven touchdowns in 2012 before managing just four games last year, and Indianapolis Dwayne Allen had 521 yards and three scores as a rookie in 2012, before getting hurt in Week One last season. Among the darkhorse candidates, to consider for deep leagues, Kansas Citys Travis Kelce appeared in one game last season, but his last year in college, at Cincinnati, was productive (722 YDS, 8 TD, 13 GP) and hes expected to have a regular role in the Chiefs offence. Lions rookie Eric Ebron was a force at North Carolina (62 REC, 973 YDS, 3 TD as a junior last season), so he offers a new dimension for a Detroit passing game that is already one of the leagues most prolific. As you can see, beyond the first eight or ten, the field opens up with lots of potential, but there is reason to secure the guys at the high end. Even as the field of talent gets deeper, the guys at the very top are creating big enough gaps to retain value.
